My Contributions
This project was first conceptualized in my second-year uni 'Games Rapid Prototyping' class, where I brought it forward for full year-long development as my final third-year uni games project. I am currently reworking this project in preparation for an upcoming games festival so stay tuned for exciting updates...
Project Manager
As project manager, I led my team of two artists and utilized task delegation software through Trello. I was responsible for leading pitch presentations and weekly sprint check-ins with our tutors, as well as coordinating and running weekly team meetings. I constructed several game design documents (a standard GDD Google Doc as well as an interactive concept overview Milanote). This ensured all team members had a common understanding of the project's goal and overall aesthetic.
Programmer
As the game's programmer, I held responsibility for constructing each game system. I developed prototypes and proof-of-concept mechanic tests to evaluate which gameplay elements were fun and appropriate for further development. I coordinated the setup of all project files, including implementing Plastic SCM for version control. With many unknown features, I had to dedicate a significant portion of time to researching how to effectively achieve certain game features - notably the implementation of local multiplayer and object pooling systems.
Play//Space Exhibit
I was invited to display Raccoon Rubbish Removalists at the Squiggly River 'Play//Space' games exhibit.
My game was showcased alongside four other incredible projects, highlighting the interactive art and experimental games of Brisbane's local creatives.
Seeing members of Brisbane's broader games community come together to embrace their inner trash animals and embrace the chaotic mess of Raccoon Rubbish Removalists was a delightful addition to the evening.
In preparation for the event, I made various gameplay tweaks, added new fun mechanics, reworked the UI systems, and redesigned environment concepts.
Massive thanks go to Sarah Denman for her complete redesign of the game environment and 3D models.
